Gordon Briosi

May 8, 1940 ~ December 5, 2024

My final request is no funeral and publication of this brief “tribute”, to others in my life, inspired by a hobby which includes writing letters to the editor! (Thanks to the “News” staff for editing, and publishing)! First, the typical obit ancestry details, including primary cause of deaths, follows. My father, Andrew passed away at age 70, (heart); mother, Jessie at age 82, (cancer), and brother, Ross, (Dorothy), at age 70, (heart). I am survived by a younger sister, Carol, (Dennis) and their daughter, Jill (Graham). Their son, Cameron tragically passed away at age 20, (Crohn’s related). Jill and Graham have one son. I have surviving cousins on both my mother’s and father’s side and a brother-in-law through marriage, Dan Walsh (Maureen) who married Janice Lust, (Arlene’s sister), who regrettably died (cancer) leaving two daughters, Kathleen, and Patricia, (Bart), plus Patricia and Bart’s two sons. I married Arlene Lust in 1961 who regrettably died in 2003, (cancer). I am the proud father of two surviving children, Colin Briosi, and Lisa (Peter) Chartrand. I have two grandchildren, Kayla and Jessica Chartrand. Lisa retired as a district manager for Staples Canada, and Colin retired as founder and previous administrator of officepools.com. I was very fortunate to have worked at DRES for 35 years! The experience enabled me to write university administered engineering exams, which ultimately resulted in my becoming a P. Eng. Work highlights included being granted a couple of government patents, one of which led to the introduction of a device into Canadian Forces military engineer inventory. The job also involved travel, including trips to the CFB Lahr Germany Military Base which closed in 1994. Presentation of a research paper at an international conference in Malaysia was another personal highlight, and honour for me! The DRES workplace enabled the formation of many friendships, including one with Betty Wedge, a wonderful companion and travel mate in later years! Three other special friends include Bryan Laidlaw (for over 60 years), Al Carruthers, and Claude Chenier. Others kept in touch (through regular post retirement gatherings, for over 30 years), and, still others, through an internet registry of DRES retirees, administered by another mutual friend, (thanks Sharon)!! DRES was an enjoyable, stimulating and friendly public service workplace. To my family and friends, you are all special and thanks for being there for me! No regrets!
