Glenda Leone Syrota
April 7th, 1953 – June 14th, 2026
It is with heavy hearts, along with many precious memories, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, Glenda Leone Syrota (nee Taylor) on Sunday June 14th, 2026, following a spirited battle with cancer.
Glenda lived her life to its fullest. She could always be found with a big smile on her face and heart full of kindness ready to share with everyone she met. That kindness was often accompanied by a hug!
Glenda will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, David; her daughter Shandea (Paul) Schlosser; her grandsons, Derian and Brandt Swaren (Kyla Villar), Logan Schlosser; as well as her sister, Barbara (Paul) Willis, and her brother Ron (Alice) Gibson. Glenda was predeceased by her parents, Edward Taylor and Lisle Taylor (Compton).
Glenda was born on April 7th, 1953, in Humbolt, SK to Ted and Lisle Taylor. She spent her childhood years moving throughout small Saskatchewan towns with her family until settling in Vanderhoof BC, where she met David. They were married in August of 1975 and celebrated 50 years of marriage this past August.
Life and circumstance granted opportunities to set roots in various BC and Alberta communities, making many friends along the way until true home was made in Medicine Hat, AB in 1990. This is where Glenda found her ultimate calling outside the home; she was employed with Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education as a Teacher Assistant for nearly twenty years. She dearly loved working with elementary children, and particularly excelled when faced with a challenging student or situation. The children were showered with kindness, patience, and occasionally her tough side if they pushed a little too hard!
Following retirement, and a fight with breast cancer Glenda embraced a new endeavour and began her time as a volunteer at the Cancer Clinic. She embraced the opportunity to be able to share her experiences, offer comfort and serve the community. She was proud to be a survivor. She continued to volunteer for many years and enjoyed every minute of it.
Glenda’s family wishes to thank the incredible physicians, nurses, and staff at St Joseph’s Carmel Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion and love shared with Glenda, her friends, and family during these last couple of months. They are true angels on Earth.
A funeral mass will be celebrated for Glenda on Friday, June 26th, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made in Glenda’s name to Covenant Foundation – St. Joseph’s Home – Medicine Hat, or the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre.
