1934 – 2017
George Simon “Sy” Poisson passed away peacefully at the Riverview Care Centre on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at the age of 82 years. He leaves to cherish his memory four children, Joseph (Tracey) Poisson, Shannon (Russell) Stuber, Phyllis (Kelly) Carlson and Robert (Nicki) Poisson; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ellen; parents, Henry and Gertrude as well as four siblings. Sy was born on November 29, 1934 in Eastend, SK. and grew up on a farm there. He worked for the PFRA and was a ranch hand for numerous years. The family moved to Redcliff in 1970 where Sy worked as a ranch hand and later for Law Transport which later evolved into Orlich Transport. He then worked for the Town of Irvine for a period of time before following his heart back to his roots, buying a farm in Hatton. He was a true cowboy at heart and had a love for dogs. In the 70’s, he filled his spare time playing bass guitar in a band. After Sy’s health failed, he lived at the Valleyview and later the Riverview Care Centre. He loved his wife Ellen and missed her immensely after she passed. He was very proud of his family and the strong values he and Ellen had instilled in them. Ellen was waiting for Sy and opened the gate when he arrived. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at Riverview for the love and care they provided to Sy. A special thank you to Bonnie and Cindy for their companionship. The Celebration of Sy’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating.
