February 27, 1933 – January 17, 2024
George Edward (Ed) Robinson passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years with his family by his side. He was born in Cartwright Manitoba, the youngest of four children and the last of his generation.
On June 27, 1959, George married the love of his life, Edith Mary Hancock. They were married for 44 years until she passed away on December 6, 2003.
Medicine Hat became home for George in 1947. He attended Riverside School and Alexandra High School, was a News carrier and a Cadet with the 15th Medicine Hat Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. In 1951, he joined the RCAF serving twenty years as an Aero-Engine Technician. His career took him to Whitehorse (YT), Goose Bay (NL), #4 Fighter Wing Germany, Rabat Morocco, Saskatoon (SK), Penhold (AB) and Moose Jaw (SK). Following retirement from the Armed Forces in 1971, his family settled in Medicine Hat where he worked for Goodyear Canada Inc. as a Power Engineer, retiring in 1994.
George’s attention to detail and routine was his way of life. He enjoyed his vehicles, making sure each was maintained under the hood, inside and out. With that same care, he stayed on top of the home maintenance and gardening for as long as he could before moving into the Wellington in 2014. He was a quiet, private, independent and reflective soul, and will remain forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his daughter, son and six grandchildren: Janet (Mirko) Zatka of Calgary – Jillian (Patrick) and Martin (Amelia); Brian (Rena) of Medicine Hat – Janessa (Jared) Anderson, Blake, Lauren and Kara; also, Edith’s siblings Bertha Hancock, Audrey (Morris) Kennedy, Mildred Kennedy, Blair Hancock, and sister-in-law Marianne Hancock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff at the Wellington who cared for Dad with kindness and compassion over the last decade, and especially the last few months as his health declined.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm at PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE with Rev.
