Gary Grant Hobbs
1953 ~ 2022
Gary Hobbs passed away in Medicine Hat on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the age of 69 years following complications due to his Pulmonary Fibrosis. Along with Raylene, his loving wife of over 35 years, Gary leaves to cherish his memory: son, Devyn; sister, Phyllis (Ted) Schmauder; mother-in-law, Della Walsh; brother-in-law, Jim (Leona) Walsh; sister-in-law, Rita (Mickey) Perverseff as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Dot Hobbs as well as his father-in-law, Donald Walsh. Gary was born in Claresholm, AB., on February 16, 1953. At a young age, he started driving semi, and did so for years hauling cattle, grain and machinery amongst other things. Many will remember his “Wrong Turn Clyde” story… Gary was heading up north with the flat deck, took the wrong turn, and ended up in a residential area in Calgary requiring a police escort to get out of town! He continued to drive semi throughout his life, but his heart was with the land. He went back to farming full-time shortly before his marriage to Raylene on October 11, 1986. Gary was proud to be a third generation farmer, and in 2010, we were presented with the Alberta Century Farm & Ranch Award by the then Premier, Ed Stelmach. Gary liked to stay busy, whether working or volunteering, curling in the winter or golfing and camping in the summer, he was always on the go. He was a 48 year member of the Foremost Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, during which time, he held every position at the Branch level. He even served as the elected Zone Commander, something he was very proud of. Private Interment will take place at the Foremost Cemetery. Everyone is invited to attend a come and go celebration of Gary’s life to be held at the Foremost Community Hall on Monday, July 25, 2022, between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. with a short program starting at 3:00 p.m. Family request that anyone attending please dress casually.
