Gail L. Wright
May 4, 1939 ~ October 18, 2022
It is with fond memories and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandma, Gail Letitia Wright, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the age of 83 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Gary Jr. (Heather) and his daughter, Dana (Luke) and his step-sons, Daniel (Melanie and their family Brooklyn, Westen, Carver and Case), Adam, and Josh (Erin and their daughter Sarah); son, Todd (Betty) and their daughter, Montana; daughter, Vanessa (Pavol) and her two daughters, Katelyn and Brooke and her two step-sons, Juraj and Matus, as well as loving nieces, nephews, life-long friends and her best friend, Gail Frandsen. She was predeceased by her husband, Gary; her parents, Harold (Tag) and Beatrice Torkelson and her loving sister, Dolores Pahl. In her early married years, she worked part-time at Hudson Bay in Calgary. After graduating from Garbutt Business College in 1963, she worked as a medical receptionist for Dr. A. Wilkie as well as in the family business, Wright’s Jewelry. Between raising her three children, Gail was involved in many clubs and activities. She was Past President of Medicine Hat G&CC Ladies Golf and the Kinette Club. Gail canvassed for many organizations including Heart & Stroke, United Way, Flowers of Hope and Canadian Cancer Society. She had a knack for entertaining and was always a wonderful hostess to her friends and family, making sure everyone was well fed; her delicious Christmas dinner menu will be a lasting legacy. Gail enjoyed sports and participated in many throughout her life: baseball, City Champ for High Jump in Grade 8, curling, figure skating, skiing and golfing to name a few, having a special love for horses and riding. Gail had fond memories of many travels through the years with special friends and family: Whitefish, Palm Springs and Maui were among her favorite destinations and having a good view was of the utmost importance. Wherever she travelled with friends and family, rest assured there was also an abundant supply of chocolate, one of her favorite temptations. “Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy chocolate, and that’s the same thing.” ~Anonymous. A celebration of Gail’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating, with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to experience the Funeral Service via livestreaming are encouraged to visit www.cooksouthland.com and click the View Broadcast button on the homepage at service time.
