1928 ~ Florence Cowan ~ 2021
Florence Helen (nee Meidinger). We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our loving family Matriarch on July 3, 2021. Mom was born on October 29, 1928 in Olds, Alberta, as the second of six children. She grew up in Bassano Alberta, married her soul mate Ralph on April 30th, 1950, and later that year moved to Medicine Hat. Mom had various jobs but was proudest of her years as a sales clerk at SS Kresge downtown. After her retirement mom and dad became snowbirds and traveled south with friends and family. Family meant everything to Mom and she freely shared her love with everyone. She was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed having company. She was a very proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother (GG). She was a tireless supporter of her family’s accomplishments and endeavours whether they be athletic, artistic, scholastic, or career. She was a loyal friend and confidant to all who knew her.
Mom was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary and regularly volunteered selling poppies. She also served as a member of the Eastern Star. She canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society and was a willing worker whenever approached for help.
She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Wellington Cowan, her son Ralph Wellington Jr., a daughter-in-law Peggi, her parents Albert and Rosie Meidinger, her brother Norman Art Meidinger, sisters Verna Cotton, and Doris Evans as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her three sons, Glenn, Dale (Melisa) all of Medicine Hat and Roger (Cathy) of Brooks; her grandchildren, Jerredi (Joshua) Hauck, Teigen (Blain) Dobbin, Grayden (Katelynn) Cowan, Carsen (Chelsea) Kendel, Jordan Kendel and Molly Kendel; her precious great grandchildren, Iveryn Hauck, Eraley Hauck, Aysin Dobbin and Parker Kendel; her sisters Lorraine Shaw of Calgary and Ruth (Stan) Lassister of Bassano.
At her request there will be no formal funeral service but immediate family will gather for an interment at Hillside Cemetery at a later date. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: office@pattisonfuneralhome.com subject heading: Florence Cowan, or you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.
