Elin Fuller
July 31, 1930 – May 31, 2024
Elin Leona Fuller (nee Johnson) was born at Turner Valley, Alberta. It was there she started school. Her parents, Eric and Margaret, moved her and her brother, Robert, to Alliance, Alberta when she was about five and Elin spent most of her remaining life in the Alliance and Castor area. She met and married Arthur Fuller and moved 10 km SW of Alliance onto a large Fuller family farm shared with grandparents, an uncle and aunt, and their families. Shortly after, Art and Elin welcomed two sons, Brian and Daryl, where they taught their boys to work hard and to cherish family.
Elin was an intelligent woman and though circumstances prevented her from attending nursing school, she received a certificate as a dietician and served faithfully in the Galahad hospital for thirty years. Elin graciously supported Art and Daryl on the farm. She enjoyed her garden and kept the house clean and generously supplied with food for her family. Daryl and Patty lived in the adjoining yard, so Elin was able to enjoy her grandchildren.
Elin and Art traveled a bit in their motorhome and enjoyed their close friends until Art’s passing in 1996. Elin continued to appreciate family and living quietly on the farm. When Brian and Shelly had children, Elin and granddaughter, Shannon, flew to California to meet the new additions to the Fullers.
Elin continued to live on the farm, with Patty’s help, until her poor health required her to move to the Paint Earth Lodge in Castor where she spent several good years and enjoyed the kindness of staff. In 2020, she broke her hip and had to, once again, adjust. Dementia was also taking its toll, so Brian attempted to move her to Medicine Hat. Unfortunately, COVID became a reality, and she was not able to move out of Consort LTC for almost two years. The staff in Consort were so kind and she was given excellent care.
She was finally given a bed in Medicine Hat in early 2022 and spent her last two years in Riverview LTC. She continued to enjoy the team at the facility and used her quick wit with family and staff alike. Elin was loved by the staff at Riverview and thanked them often. She always thought of others first saying such things as, “I’m fine, you go look after yourself.”
The night of her passing she told Brian and family that she was alright, that she loved us, and that she just wanted to go home and sleep. The only thing she asked for that day was her purse and that we sing to her.
Elin went home quietly in her sleep two months shy of her 94th birthday. She had faith that she was going to be home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was predeceased by her father, Conrad Eric Johnson; mother, Margaret; brother, Robert; her husband, Arthur; and son, Daryl. She leaves to mourn her son, Brian (Shelly); grandchildren, Katie and Josh; daughter-in-law, Patty; grandchildren, Ryan (Janell), Robin (Erin), Shane (Pam), and Shannon (Mike). She also leaves to mourn great grandchildren, Payton, Jarrett, Reece, Heather, Clay, Gavin, Logan, Haley, Hayden, Mackenzie, and Grady.
Elin will be buried beside Art in Castor at a graveside service to be held at a later date. Condolences may be made at www.gracememorial.com. Arrangements are made by GRACE MEMORIAL AFFORDABLE BURIAL & CREMATION 1924 10th Ave NW, Medicine Hat, Alberta T1C 1T5 403-905-0440 info@gracememorial.com.
