Eleanora Alma Bender of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at the age of 95 years, beloved wife of the late Joseph Bender. She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Keith (Loretta) Bender, Dale (Wilma) Bender, Judy (Ron) Turner, Greg Bender (Brad Dunham) and JoAnne Bender all of Medicine Hat; eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Miller of Grenfell, Saskatchewan; one sister-in-law Janet Schmidt of Yorkton, Saskatchewan; her brothers-in-law Curt Kunkel and Darrell Johnson of Saskatoon and Bill (Elaine) Kunkel of Esterhazy; her nieces and nephews as well as her good friend Helen Hahn. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Kathreina Schmidt; her husband Joseph on January 14, 2000; one brother Norman Schmidt, one sister Ruth Hoehn; one brother and twin sisters in infancy. Eleanora was born on March 20, 1924 at Neudorf, Saskatchewan the eldest daughter of Henry and Kathreina. On April 8, 1945, she married Joseph Bender in Neudorf where they farmed south of there for the next eleven years. In 1956, they moved with their four children to Medicine Hat where their fifth child was born. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Monday from 12:30 p.m. – 1:25 p.m. The funeral service will be held in St. Peter Lutheran Church (758 8th Street SE) on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Pastor Shane Hein officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
