Joyce Woolley
February 6, 1937 ~ October 17, 2025
Eleanor Joyce Woolley, daughter of Norman and Ada (nee Hawthorne) Woolley, was born on February 6, 1937, in Medicine Hat. Her surviving family remember her as an exotic, elegant and classy big city girl. She had left home while the first of her nieces were very young, so while a country girl at heart, Aunt Joyce was a celebrity in their eyes. She had attended Feldman Lake School (a one room country school) and then went to Alexandra High School in Medicine Hat. Joyce joined the Canadian Air Force where she was a radar operator. After the Air Force, Joyce worked for The Bell Telephone Company in Toronto, then at Canada Life Insurance in Toronto for 23 years. She moved to Tottenham, Ontario where she worked briefly in a market garden. Joyce was well known for her love of birds, peonies and day lilies. She decided to take a course in health care and worked at Good Samaritan Home until she retired. Joyce is survived by four nieces, Marjorie (Les) Wonnenberg, Carol Franz, Shirley Maurer and Janice (Larney) DeBoer; one nephew, Calvin (Melissa) Boschee as well as numerous cousins and extended family in Ontario and Alberta. Joyce is also fondly remembered by her good friends, Joe and Sharon Duggan. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Ada; sister, Jean (John) Boschee; partner, Elwin “Slim” Tassie as well as her niece, Joanne Krutzler. Honouring Joyce’s wishes, she will be laid to rest with her parents at Hillside Cemetery at a later date. The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Joanna and the caring staff at Simcoe Manor in Nottawasaga Wing, Dr. Lewis at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Bryce Giroux (Jason Smith Funeral Chapel), Scott at Rod Abrams Funeral Home and Cook Southland Funeral Chapel in Medicine Hat for completing Joyce’s journey home.
