Edna Lutz
1934 ~ 2023
On July 3, 2023, Edna Lutz received her angel wings. At the age of 89, Edna passed away in her sleep. She is now reunited with her husband, Elmer, whom she has, so dearly, missed since his passing in 2010. Edna was a wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma who will be deeply missed. She will be fondly remembered as being the biggest cheerleader at her kids and grandkids hockey and baseball games. Edna LOVED her family; she could never get enough of them. The more you visited and the more you called, the happier she was. She also loved her sports, curling and the Toronto Blue Jays kept her entertained in her later years. Edna was born to Gottlieb and Matilda Debler on April 23rd, 1934, in Medicine Hat and was the second youngest of nine children. On August 12, 1955, Edna married Elmer Lutz and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Through those 55 years the two of them were blessed with a successful business and 5 children. Edna worked at Dominion Glass and then devoted herself to being a full time mom, one of the jobs she cherished the most. Edna was a great cook and was well known for her homemade fries and stew and strudels. Through the years, Edna was Elmer’s right hand woman. The two of them did everything together, side by side. A couple of things that the two of them were most proud of, aside from their family, was the cabin they built in Elkwater and their dream home they built on an acreage south of Medicine Hat. Five years after Elmer passed away Edna suffered a stroke. After the stroke Edna was unable to move back to her home as she required more care. Even though she had to move to an assisted living facility she still made the best of life. At the Wellington, Edna found some new friends and was reacquainted with some old ones. She looked forward to her card nights, listening to music and her nightly visits from Yvonne or Marla who went above and beyond to connect with Edna. In December of 2022, Edna was assessed as needing more care and Meadow Ridge became her new home where she lived until her passing. She was a one of a kind lady who had a witty sense of humor. Edna was also strong, brave, courageous, resilient, kind, caring, thoughtful, impatiently patient, apologetic and very loving. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Edna lived a good life, the memories of her will be cherished forever and she will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: son, Kelly (Cathy) Lutz and their family: Tyler (Laura) and their children, Deacon & Aubrey, Candice (Colin) Fuller and their children, Avery, Harper & Asher, Mariah (Tyson) Erb and their daughter, Sutton, Nicole (Mitch) Board and their daughter, Sloane, Tanner (Cassidy); son, Blaine (Carrie) Lutz and their family: Justin & Joel (Mellissa) and their daughter, Isabella; daughter, Jennifer (Wade) Rockabar and their family: Jessie (Tyler) Henry and their daughter, Paisley, Chance (Tamara) and their children, Katie & Jameson and Kimberley Rockabar and her children, Dayzen & Quinten; son, Keith (Debbie) Lutz and family: Keaton (Amber) and their son, Stetson, Konner and Kaid; daughter, Nancy (Mike) Vander Heiden and their family, Dylan, Madison and Mackenzie. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Elmer; parents, brothers and sisters and one grandson, Cole Vander Heiden. The family would like to send their special thanks to Dr. Doug Mastel for the years of care that he provided to Edna and to the staff at the Wellington and Meadow Ridge, thank you, for helping to make Edna’s time with you the most enjoyable that it could be. We do believe that God above Created us for you to love. He chose you out of all the rest Because he knew you’d love us best. Thank you for loving us. Give Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa a hug from all of us.
