Edith Barbara Cowie (nee Duncan), known to friends as “Edie”, passed away in her sleep at the Good Samaritan Society in Medicine Hat, Alberta on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at the age of 86 years. Edith is survived by her children: Gary Duncan of Edmonton, AB., with daughters Stephanie (Marty Collins) and Sheree (Corey Quinton); Glen Piper of Medicine Hat, AB., with his furry companion, Reese; Gail Ribble of Napanee, ON., with sons, Kris (Mariona), Scot (Margaret), and daughter, Susan; Susan (Rick Wahl) of Medicine Hat, AB., with daughter, Laura and son, Cody; and Hal Cowie (Sherry) of Kingston, ON., with sons, David, Chris, David and daughter, Kellie as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Also special to Edith’s heart are niece, Gwen Merritt (Whynnie) of Burlington, ON., with daughters, Shannon (Tom), Jennifer, and Nicolas (Michelle); and best friend Lil (Jean Vezina) of Lethbridge, AB. Edith will also be remembered by her sisters, Helen Jesseman and Ruth Nelson of Ontario and brother, Robert of Vancouver; sister-in-law, Veronica Cowie and many nieces and nephews. Edie was born on July 11, 1932, in Oakville, ON to John and Helen Duncan. She was the second youngest in a family of nine. Hardworking, dedicated, loyal and proud, were words that described Edith’s work life. Edie was a steadfast fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, had a great love of animals, was a very good dart player for many years and music was always playing in her house. A Celebration of Edie’s life will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 504 – 2nd Street, S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Lackie officiating.
