Douglas Bourassa
December 21, 1968 ~ May 13, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Douglas Germain Bourassa announce his unexpected passing at home in Redcliff on Friday, May 13 2022, at the age of 53 years. Doug was born in Regina, SK., to Laurent and Catherine Bourassa, and raised in Fernie, B.C., where he grew up enjoying hunting and playing hockey. During highschool, “Dougie” went to play for the Ft. McMurray Junior A team (Ft. McMurray Oil Barons), although returned to Fernie for his grade 12 Graduation year. Doug was invited to the Buffalo Sabres training camp, however an injury ended his hockey journey. Living in Cranbrook is where he started his family, with Lauren being born in 1994. The family later moved to Medicine Hat in 1996 where Justin was born in 1999, before settling in Redcliff in 2000. Following a move later in life to Newfoundland, he settled back in Redcliff in 2018 where he resided until his passing. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his kids, and always built a community of strong friendships wherever he went, such as through work, slow-pitch, the Lions Club, bowling, darts, and neighbors to the homes he has lived in over the years. More recently, he enjoyed the friendships he made with his current neighbors, gathering in his garage through their shared interest in working on vehicles. Doug loved working with his hands and being in the garage tinkering, fixing or building just about anything, including wood working. One of his fondest creations was a beautiful hope chest he made as a gift. Doug loved his two cats, Harlow and Nugget, and enjoyed raising reptiles including a bearded dragon. Doug’s memory will be lovingly treasured in the hearts of his son, Justin Bourassa of Bobcaygeon, ON., and his daughter, Lauren (Matthew) Seitz of Medicine Hat, and their son Caleb (whom he was a proud grandfather of); the mother of his children, Joanne Bourassa; his mother, Cathy Bourassa, his sister Roxanne Bourassa (Marty Materi), her daughter, Melissa (Lane) Therriault and their children, Carson and Sydney all of Cranbrook B.C., as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Doug was predeceased by his father, Laurent Bourassa. A Celebration of Life for Doug will take place at Lion’s Park in Redcliff on June 3, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at www.cooksouthland.com). In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Doug’s name may be made directly to Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, (666 – 5 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, AB., T1A 4H6), where donations are used to help improve the quality and care for patients in the Hospital.
