It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Donna Marie Melsness (Pitre), the beloved wife of Timothy Walter Melsness of 31 years, a mother, sister, auntie, nana, and friend. Donna passed away on April 27th, 2024, at the age of 73, surrounded by her loving family. Donna was born on March 12th, 1951, in Pine Falls, Manitoba. She was one of 10 siblings and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She moved to Alberta and married Tim on April 3rd, 1993. Donna was a kind, loving person who left an impact on everyone she met.
In addition to being a wonderful mother and wife, Donna’s most immense love was of animals. She had many special dogs who touched her heart and brought her great joy. Over the years, she had many different hobbies such as macrame, baking, house plants, gardening, tropical fish, breeding dogs, and reading. Donna had a particular interest in photography and had a unique eye for perfection. She always researched ways to learn and create the perfect “shot.” The photos of the countless animals, flowers, birds, and nature will leave her family with endless enjoyment to see the journey and happiness that photography gave her.
Donna was a beautiful person inside and out; she had the most infectious smile that would fill your heart with happiness, she would help anyone in need, and was always worried about everyone who meant the world to her; she was an amazing mother that always gave her children the most love, determination, encouragement, and support. She was a caring wife and loved her husband / best friend, Tim, like no other. Her phone calls, texts, hugs, and visits will always be missed. The emptiness she has left in our family will be forever painful, but her memories put a smile on our faces during this heart-wrenching time, forever with love.
Donna’s legacy lives on through her children, Keith Bateman (Jamie Herzog), Karrie Brown (David), and Philip Bateman (Kelly Lock), and her grandchildren, Julianna, Ethan, Colton, Jace, Brennen, and McKenzie. She was a beloved sister to Cathy (Brian), Marcel (Lucille), Glen (Lucille), Don (Carole), Irene (Marc), Midge (Duarte), Annette, and Jeanine (Rick), and a cherished aunt to many nephews and nieces. Her parents, Elmer Gerald Pitre and Jean Agnes Pitre, and her brother, Elmer Lewis Pitre, preceded her in death.
“At the end of life, what really matters is not what we bought but what we built; not what we got but what we shared; not our competence but our character; and not our success, but our significance. Live a life that matters. Live a life of love.” – Author Unknown
