Del (Delores) Merrick

1955 ~ 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Del (Delores) Merrick on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Del is survived by her husband, Lorne Merrick; son, Mark (Crystal) Durrant; son, William (Lorna) Merrick; daughter, Tina (Kevin) Steinke; grandson, Jordan Durrant; granddaughter, Amber Durrant; granddaughter, Kayla Merrick; grandson, Brady (Ashleigh) Merrick; grandson, Brad Steinke; granddaughter, Amanda (Ryan) Steinke; granddaughter, Katrina (Tylan) Cripps as well as numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother, Peter (Betty) Hackman; brother, Bernard (Mary Louise) Merrick; sister, Josie (John) Weatherhead and sister, Loretta (Armand) Gauthier. Del was predeceased by first husband, Darryl Durrant; mother, Mary (Sinora) and father, Tex.

Del was born in Roblin, MB on October 29, 1955. The family moved to Consul, SK where she was raised. She met and married her husband, Darryl in Eastend, SK. They then moved to Medicine Hat where their son, Mark as born and raised. After Darryl’s passing, she then met Lorne to whom she was married to until her passing. Retail was both her work and her passion. She loved interacting with customers. Del was the manageress of the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Medicine Hat and continued in retail until her retirement. Del was a thoughtful, loving person. She loved her flowers, her pictures, and shopping. Home decorating was one of her great pleasures.

A Celebration of Del’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street SW, Medicine Hat on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating.
