David Pollard

David Pollard is a product of a public education system just outside of Edmonton that brought inspiring teachers and caring staff into his life.

He believes in a system of high-quality public education in which teachers, administrators, school and district staff, and their leadership work together to educate for the common good. He wants schools to be welcoming non-judgmental places where students are welcomed to be themselves, to try their best, and inspired to start being lifelong learners.

Pollard also believes that schools in the 21st century need to be aware of ingrained racism prejudice and hate. He says he will advocate for anti-bullying policies, the Calls to Action contained in the Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recognition and acceptance of orientation and gender identity.

His priority areas are safe schools for students and staff, advocacy for a proper 21st curriculum in conjunction with parents and teachers and advocacy for increased and stable funding for per students grants and other budgeted items.

Pollard has a Bachelor of Arts with a history major and political science minor from the U of A. He entered the Master of Divinity program at St. Andrew’s College and was ordained by the United Church of Canada in 2002. He served churches in Wawa, Ont. and Airdrie, Alta, and in 2016 was recruited to join the staff at Medicine Hat’s Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church as the Lead Minister. He married Tara in 2003 and their twins Ed and Kate are in Grade 6 in Medicine Hat Public School Division.
