Dale Brown
1958 – 2025
Dale Gerald Brown, age 67 years, passed away at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Monday, November 24, 2025, shortly after a diagnosis of cancer. Dale’s loving wife, Kathy, was with him when he peacefully left this world to join his parents and sister in God’s loving presence. His children, grandchildren, sisters and beloved furry friend, Maui, surrounded him with love and support leading up to his passing. Along with Kathy, his loving wife of 31 years, Dale is survived by his children and grandchildren: Brendan (Leslee) Brown, Avery & Colter (Rivers, MB); Aaron (Rachel) Brown and Charlotte (New Westminster, BC); Brian (Corinne) O’Neill, Maeryn, Brody & Tegan (Sherwood Park, AB); Lana (Brent) Watts, Ty, Haylie & Brynn (Leader, SK); brother-in-law, Garry Schaan; sisters, Judy (Roger) Galenza, Donna Brown and Wendy (Michael) Thienes; brothers-in-law, Brian (Fern) McMillan and Don (Wanda) McMillan as well as many nieces and nephews. Dale was predeceased by his parents, Fred & Ann Brown; sister, Kathy Schaan; Kathy’s parents, Emmett & Lucille McMillan and sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Carol & Larry Hainstock. Dale was born on August 18, 1958, the only son and the first of five children, to Fred & Ann Brown in Central Butte, Saskatchewan. He grew up on the farm in the R.M. of Maple Bush, north of town, becoming Dad’s right-hand man and big brother to four little sisters. Dale played hockey in high school and a highlight of his youth was winning the SAHA Midget Provincials in 1975. Dale was a lifelong hockey fan, cheering for the Medicine Hat Tigers and Edmonton Oilers. He enjoyed the Blue Jays’ performance this October and was happy to watch the Riders win another Grey Cup from the comfort of his easy chair on November 16. Dale was an avid golfer and was never afraid to express his emotions and passion while watching or playing sports! Dale completed his Grade 12 education at Central Butte High School and entered his 42 year long career in banking immediately after, living in at least ten different communities during that time, working for CIBC, TD and in the Credit Union system. His first marriage brought two beautiful boys into his life: Brendan in 1983 and Aaron in 1986. Dale and Kathy met in Leader in 1992 and were married on May 6, 1994 on the banks of the river in Saskatoon. This union blessed him with two step-children, Brian and Lana, whom he also loved deeply. In 1999, Dale & Kathy moved to Medicine Hat, then to Redcliff in 2003. Family, friends, travel and golf were some of the pillars of the life Dale enjoyed. Dale & Kathy relocated to Medicine Hat from Redcliff this past summer. Their home in Redcliff, along the first hole of Riverview Golf Club, was the site of many happy family gatherings, complete with pool parties for the grandchildren. Travel was a priority for them and they were able to visit Zimbabwe where Dale participated in the Village Banks Project to help develop viable credit unions in that country. They also enjoyed two trips to Ireland, along with Hawaii, Mexico, a family trip to Disneyland, and many road trips to watch grandchildren’s activities and sports, as far away as Phoenix. Their combined family of four children blessed them with eight grandchildren whom Dale was extremely proud of and in awe of their intelligence, talent and beauty. You would be hard-pressed to find a prouder Grandpa. In January of this year, Dale and Kathy adopted Maui, their beloved golden doodle who became the source of so much joy and comfort in recent months as they both navigated health concerns and the move to the city. Dale’s patience and optimism during his health battles were remarkable, and his iconic laugh and sense of humour never faltered. While 67 years doesn’t seem long enough, Dale expressed how blessed he had been in this life and that he had no regrets. The family is grateful for the care provided by Dr.Naz family practice, in the ICU by Dr. Holland and the nursing staff, along with the exceptional staff at Carmel Hospice where his final hours were peaceful and supported. A Celebration of Dale’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Jaycen Snider officiating.
