Curtis Oscar Noble
February 19, 1981 – December 15, 2022
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Curtis Oscar Noble announce his unexpected passing on December 15, 2022, at the age of 41 years. Curtis is survived by his parents, Blaine and Jeanne Noble; 3 daughters, Keelin, Julie and Leah Noble, mother of his children, Jennifer Noble; sister, Crystal (Shane) Sabo; niece, Jasper Sabo; nephew, Dax Sabo; grandmother, Rita Forget; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Curtis was predeceased by his grandparents, Oscar and Dorothy Noble; and grandfather, Willie Forget.
Curtis was born in Swift Current, SK on February 19, 1981, and was raised in Medicine Hat, AB. He attended St. Michael’s, St. Mary’s and graduated from McCoy High School in 1999. Growing up, his family traveled all over Canada and the United States. Some of his fondest memories growing up were during these trips. He loved learning the history of the places they visited and could always remember interesting facts about these trips, even years later. He visited Ottawa when he was 17 and it didn’t take him long to find the House of Commons and sit in the Prime Minister’s seat. We always knew he would be in politics some day. As a child, he competitively swam with the Waves Swim Club where his love of swimming began. He would later go on to be a lifeguard and then take scuba diving lessons and this led him to become a part of the Medicine Hat Aquatic Rescue team.
After graduation, he played junior football for the Victoria Rebels for four years. Curtis’ dream was to become a firefighter and he was on cloud 9 when he was accepted into Lakeland College, in Vermillion in 2004 to pursue his passion. Curtis was devoted to being the best he could be, he spent countless hours outside of the classroom studying and putting into practice what he learned. He made many close and lifelong friendships. In 2005, Curtis obtained a diploma in Emergency Services Technology and a certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician from NAIT.
Curtis began his career for the Swift Current Fire Department in March 2005, joining platoon A, and worked casually as an EMT. Curtis loved being a firefighter and interacting with everyone. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it. Curtis was a great addition to the department, always bringing his positive attitude, calm demeanor, strong work ethic and it was a bonus he was a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan.
In 2008, Curtis was blessed with twin girls, Keelin and Julie. The love that he had for his children was strong, unwavering and fierce. In February 2010, Curtis and his family moved back to Medicine Hat, and he joined the Medicine Hat Fire Department. Curtis’ first day on shift was a memorable one as, it was the same day his youngest daughter, Leah, was born. Curtis took pride in serving his community that he grew up in, and you could always rely on him. Curtis’s love for firefighting and politics was a perfect fit when he served as President of the Medicine Hat Firefighters Association and was Vice President of the Alberta Firefighters Association. He was a strong advocate for all firefighters all over the province by lobbying governments for more presumptive cancer coverage. Curtis was soft spoken and a true leader. He never said much but when he did, people listened. Curtis led by example and always put people’s needs ahead of his own. He touched so many lives and always left it better than he found it.
Curtis’s passion for sports and helping people would later come together when he became an Offensive Coach & Coordinator in Swift Current and at McCoy High School. He inspired many young players over the years and could always recognize the players that needed extra encouragement and attention. He would take them under his wing and help them find the potential in themselves that he could always recognize.
He was an avid outdoorsman; spending as much time as he could in his garden, fishing, hunting, riding his motorbike, and spent many hours at Lac Pelletier. Curtis had an appreciation for politics and ran for a seat on the public school board in 2021. He had many interests from playing the guitar to wine tasting to forging knives.
The biggest love that Curtis had was for his children. Keelin, Julie and Leah had their dad wrapped around their fingers (and he knew it), there was nothing that he wouldn’t do for his girls and family. Family was absolutely everything and he loved every moment he spent with them. Curtis’ legacy will live on in them, as well as the many lives he has touched over his short 41 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 1PM at the Cypress Centre, 2055 21 Ave SE, Medicine Hat, AB, with Chaplain Mike Landry officiating.
In Curtis’ last days there were many visitors sharing their stories about Curtis and how he had impacted their lives. The family would love it if you could write your Curtis story down so they can make a memory book for his daughters to read for many years to come.
