Corey Martin
1948 ~ 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Corey John Martin announce his peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at the age of 73 years. Corey was born in Red Deer, AB., and raised by his parents in Blackfalds, AB., along with his three younger siblings. After graduating high school, Corey started working with AGT at the young age of 17. While with AGT he attended SAIT and obtained his Communications Technician designation. He continued on with AGT/Telus until 1993. The years following and up to his retirement he worked as a consultant in the Telecommunications field, eventually starting his own company “Rafter M5 Network Consulting Ltd.” Sports were a very significant part of Corey’s life. This was clearly evident in his devotion to his beloved Montreal Canadiens. Corey was a gifted athlete, most notably on the ice playing hockey. However, there really wasn’t a sport that he did not excel at. At age 40, he decided to take up team roping which became his way of life for quite a few years. The last few years he spent as much time on the golf course as possible. He passed on his passion of sports to his kids and grandkids. He so very much enjoyed watching them all at their games and activities and was their #1 fan! Corey loved to travel whether it was a summertime vacation to the Okanagan or a winter escape to a sunny resort. One of his most favourite destinations was Maui which he was able to visit numerous times in his life. Corey also had a passion for music and loved to sing. A tune was always playing in the background no matter where or what he was doing. He had an uncanny knack for remembering not only the name of the artist but the year the song came out and where he was during that particular time! Retirement gave Corey time to work on many projects including working in his yard and flower garden, his backyard pond, his crafting and of course, time to pour his heart and soul into all his wine barrel water fountains that he made for many people. Anyone who knew Corey, knew that his family was the most important thing to him, that he would give you the shirt off of his back – no questions asked, and always had a story, joke or prank ready to make you laugh! Many a stray (animal or person) were rescued on his many travels along the highway. The best word to describe him aside from DAD or POPPA would be “FRIEND”. He made a friend no matter where he went and has accumulated them all over the world. Corey always had a smile on his face and made an impact on everyone he met. His personality was larger than life. Left to cherish his incredible memory are his three children, Angela (Blake) Shipley, Laine (Gord) Williamson and Kyle (Natasha) Martin; grandchildren, Dallyn and Makena Schreiner and their dad, Clint Schreiner, Logan Martin, Rhyan Williamson and Linkon Reesor-Shipley; siblings, Laurie (Ron) Short, Tom (Orena) Martin and Wendy (Al) McKee; his ex-wife and mother of his children, Lynn Martin; ex-wife, Carolyn Martin; faithful furry companions, Doogie, Lion King and Luckie as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Homer Martin. A Celebration of Corey’s life will be held at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Rd S.E., Medicine Hat on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating.
