Cindy Reynolds
1958 ~ 2025
Cindy Ann Reynolds passed away suddenly at her home in Bow Island on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the age of 67 years. Cindy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter, blessed with a loving, kind, compassionate nature, coupled with her inner strength and determination that inspired us all. Born on February 18, 1958, in Medicine Hat to Phil Rapson Jr. and Beverly Hillestad, Cindy was raised on the family farm north of Winifred and was proud to be a country girl. She had a strong work ethic and often shared memories of the various places she worked in the area, especially in her hometown. As a teenager, she picked cucumbers, worked at the Ogilvie Flour Mill and served up burgers and fries at the Polka Dot. In time, she was employed as an aide at the Bow Island Hospital and later Bow Island HomeCare. When ill health forced her to look at less physically demanding work, she enrolled as a mature student in the Office Technology Program at Medicine Hat College where she met students and instructors who inspired her greatly. One of her most proudest moments was graduating with the Award of Excellence. She went on to work at TryAg Supply (later Highway Service) in Bow Island and from there to the Town of Bow Island. She truly loved her role as Recreation and Tourism Coordinator, working with the various committee volunteers and serving the public on a daily basis. Cindy was very adept at dealing with the public in her various jobs, from grumpy farmers waiting on parts to rate payers upset with a pothole or tax increase. Her kind demeanor and beautiful smile, coupled with a sincere desire to help, would calm the waters and help solve the problem. Cindy was a member of the Royal Purple, serving a term as Honoured Royal Lady. When her children were young, Cindy was active with the local ECS group and the Children’s Festival. A life-long voracious reader and library member, Cindy served on the Library Board including as Chair. She and Gordon were early board members at Blues at the Bow where they coordinated ticket sales and published the newsletter for several years and of course, had a lot of fun. Cindy is survived by her partner and husband of almost 30 years, Gordon and her mother, Beverly Rapson. She will be greatly missed by her children, Kristin (Aaron) Sturgeon, Erin Campbell (Wes Chenery), Matt Campbell (Armi Amerila); step-children, Shannon Reynolds (Ken Leslie, Jill (Kent) Gjerlaug and Ian (Kim) Reynolds. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Ruby & Mira Sturgeon, Lucas, Blades, Connor & Hayden Gjerlaug, Journey & Phoenix Leslie-Reynolds. Cindy is also survived by her brother, Rob (Marg) Rapson and family; sister, Bonnie (Vince) Kindopp and family as well as her aunt, Jo Hillestad. She was predeceased by her father, Phil Rapson Jr.; grandparents, Carl and Ethel Hillestad; mother-in-law, Betty Reynolds and her uncle, Roger Hillestad. While Cindy believed in community and caring for others, she valued family above all else and was a very proud mother and grandmother. She greatly appreciated the love and support she received from her family and others especially in the times she faced health challenges. A private family graveside will be held at Bow Island Cemetery. A Come & Go Celebration of Cindy’s life will be held at the Bow Island Legion, 202 – 5 Avenue East, Bow Island on Saturday, April 5, 2025, between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, Crematorium & Reflections Reception Facility, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4V4.
