Charlie Hansen
December 9, 1940 ~ December 3, 2024
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we, the family of Charles ‘Charlie’ Hansen announce his passing in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Charlie was born in Empress, Alberta where he began a life defined by hard work, kindness and a deep love for family. He enjoyed a long and successful career as an electrician at the University of Saskatchewan where his dedication and expertise earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Charlie’s hobbies included working with stained glass, golfing and watching Blue Jays games. A devoted husband, Charlie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Beatrice Hansen, whose memory he cherished every day along with his twin brother, Ken. Charlie is survived by his sons, Lance, Terry (Beckie) and Hal; daughter, Holly as well as many beautiful grandchildren whom he spoke of with great affection and pride holding their love and shared moments close to his heart. He also leaves behind the memories of his sister, Evelyn as well as nieces, nephews and their families. Charlie will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle humour and for the deep care he showed for those around him. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or simply offering a listening ear, Charlie left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family would like to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan Southridge Village and the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre for their compassion and kindness shown towards Charlie; it was very much appreciated. A special thank you to his niece, Karen Maier, for her continued support through his transition during this challenging time as well as to the friends that he made at Chinook Village for the kindness and love that they expressed towards the family at this difficult time. In accordance with Charlie’s wishes, a private memorial honouring his life will be held at a later date. He is now reunited with his dear Beatrice, embraced in eternal peace. Rest in peace Charlie. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
