Caroline Regina Knapik
1919 ~ 2024
Mrs. Caroline Regina Knapik, beloved wife of the late Walter Knapik, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family in Bow Island on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the incredible age of 104.5 years. Caroline is survived by her children: Karen (Al), Dennis (Jody), Val (Dave), Vern (Judy) and Doug (Carol); grandchildren: Kurt, Trina, Amanda, Jordana, Justin, Michael, Leanne, Lisa, Sarah and their partners as well as her 11 great-grandchildren. Caroline was born on September 26, 1919, in Compeer, Alberta. She started her teaching career in a 1 room schoolhouse in 1939. Caroline married her love, Walter, on July 21, 1942. After moving to Bow Island in 1954, Caroline taught school for several years. She was a founding member of the Bow Island Hospital Auxiliary and for years was an integral part of the CWL and the Golden Age Centre, placing value in community and the friends she shared it with. Caroline has read most of the books in the Bow Island Library, some more than once. She loved to knit, saying “It’s Something to keep my hands busy”, while she watched the Jays. Caroline loved to play cards, having quite a busy social calendar through the years playing her favourites which included bridge, whist and crib. Scrabble was also a favorite of hers. She had a beautiful garden of flowers and veggies. Caroline loved to can, always making enough of her delicious pickles to share. She was an excellent baker and cook. Loving a house full, she was happy to host the family holidays. Not one to brag, Caroline was proud to still be driving at 98, holding a license until her 100th birthday. She was sharp as a tack! She moved into the Pleasant View Lodge at 98, and was a cherished resident. Caroline, ‘Granny’ lived her life with such grace, compassion and love for all, showing the true meaning of loving thy neighbor.
