It is with tempered sadness that we, the family of Bregitta Grimm, wish to acknowledge our Mother’s passing on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the age of 99 years.
Bregitta is survived by her children: Theodore “Ted” Grimm (Ruth), Gladys Payne (nee Grimm), Don Grimm (Laurene), Gary Grimm (Joan) and Glen Grimm (Vanda). She also leaves to perpetuate the memory of their grandparent, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving Bregitta are one sibling, James “Jim” Hirsch; one brother-in-law, Ralph Pater; as well as countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bregitta Grimm was predeceased by her husband, Anton “Tony” Grimm; her parents, Joseph and Johanna Hirsch (nee Gutfriend); her brothers, Kasper Hirsch and John Hirsch; one sister, Theresa Pater (nee Hirsch); and a great grandchild, Chris Czember. Sisters-in-law, Helen (Kasper Hirsch), Phyllis (Jim Hirsch) and Margaret (John Hirsch) also predeceased our Mother.
Further, Bregitta leaves the many remaining descendants of the Grimm lineage to celebrate her life. All of Tony Grimm’s seven siblings, as well as their spouses, had passed away previous to our Mother.
Mom was born on July 3, 1918 in Krupp, Saskatchewan, the second oldest of five children born to Joseph Hirsch and Johanna Hirsch. It is from her agrarian immigrant parents that Mom likely derived her life long pioneer traits of perseverance, patience, hard work and a faith in one’s ability to create or to improve something and/or to improve oneself.
A person of many talents, Mother seemed to approach problems, tasks, jobs or any undertakings with confidence and with an almost innate resolve not only to face them, but also, to resolve or accomplish them with the best of results. Whether it was hosting a large family dinner, sewing drapery, crocheting an afghan, ironing clothing or painting a living room wall, the task at hand was always completed masterfully and with apparent ease.
Mom was a confident, steady and humble individual who, in spite of her superlative skills, was always willing to help or to patiently instruct others without expectation of receiving recognition.
Regardless of the fact that we were able to be a part of her life for such a lengthy period of time, we will nevertheless miss our mentor, our loving Mother, Bregitta.
The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday, March 16th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Father John L. Maes officiating. Memorial gifts in Bregitta’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 220, 6223 – 2 Street SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2H 1J5. Condolences may be sent through www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Bregitta Grimm.
