Bill Lee Knibbs passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the age of 84 years, beloved husband of Ann Marie Knibbs of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory two sons Jason (Sharon) Knibbs and Allan (Athena) Knibbs; two grandchildren Ilan Knibbs and Quinn Knibbs; one sister Gail Sanderson of Calgary; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Knibbs and Sylvia Knibbs as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Hazel and John Knibbs; six brothers, Gerald, Jack, Lloyd, Rex, Pat and Bert; two sisters, Loraine and Vivian. Born on August 24, 1934 in Grassy Lake Alberta, Bill was the youngest boy of 10 children. While he loved growing up on the family farm (“The Old Coulee Home”), farming life wasn’t for him so he decided to further his education to become a teacher. Receiving his Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, he taught several years in Taber before leaving for the United States to continue his education. Bill received degrees from Fresno State in California and the University of North Carolina. He also studied toward a doctorate degree in Baltimore Maryland. He returned to Canada to work for the Saskatchewan Government in Humbolt where he met his future wife Ann Marie Voth, who was a public health nurse there. From Humbolt they moved to Saskatoon where he taught at SIAS, then to Cariboo College in Kamloops, British Columbia and Olds College before settling at Medicine Hat College. Bill’s educational travels gained him lifelong friendships, many of which he continued right up until the end. Bill thoroughly enjoyed Canadian Football and was a passionate Calgary Stampeders fan. He loved reading and was heavily into researching his family tree, spending long hours discovering his ancestry with his beloved nieces. Bill’s favorite time of the year was spring and summer so he could look after flowerbeds and backyards for the many people he considered friends. Ann would like to thank all their friends and family who visited Bill at the hospital during dialysis and his brief stays, it meant a lot to both of them. The funeral service will be held in St. John’s Presbyterian Church (504 2nd Street SE) on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Lackie officiating. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery.
