Mrs. Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Mary Speltz (nee Roche), beloved wife of the late Mr. Ronald J. Speltz, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on her birthday, Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the age of 90 years. She was born and raised in Prince Albert, SK., and attended St. Paul’s Nursing School in Saskatoon, SK. Betty married Ron on June 29, 1957 in Prince Albert, SK. She was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic faith and a Life Member with the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of Canada. This was an organization she was very proud to be a part of. Betty worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. She loved to socialize and entertain, always a great host to those family and friends who shared in a great meal or an adult beverage together. In those younger days, Betty loved to go camping with her family. She always needed to be on the go and treasured the closeness of her family and their friendships. In her downtime, Betty enjoyed knitting, baking, crotcheting, bridge and watching sports, especially those sporting events her children and grandchildren were involved with. She was a member of the Ladies Golf League and golfed until the age of 83 years, achieving an unprecedented – two holes-in-one. Betty was so proud of her three children and their marriages as well as being able to attend the high school graduations of all six of her grandchildren, two of which were in Spokane, Washington. Together with her husband, Ron, they loved to travel in which included numerous trips to Hawaii, multiple cruises and adventures around the world. Betty’s memory will be forever treasured in the hearts of her children, Tim (Lynn) Speltz and their daughters, Jenna & Hannah; Dave (Charmaine) Speltz and their daughters, Stephanie & Nicole; Trish (Brad) Schafer and their children, Meghan and Chris; sister-in-law, Irene Hughes; brothers-in-law, Dick Bowron, Richard Wray as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald; brothers, Jim and Nick; sisters, Kitty, Jo and Margaret. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 238 – 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Tomy Manjaly celebrant. Following the Funeral Mass, fellowship will take place at the Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club, 947 Pigeon Street N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta.
