She was predeceased by her parents, Phillip and Rose Aman; her brother, Roy; her sisters, Jean Irwin, Rosemarie (Ron) Goehring; as well as her eldest grandson, Boyd Schlenker. Betty was born and raised north of Irvine Alberta; she was one of nine siblings on the family farm. Betty received her education at Irvine school and as a young woman she moved to Medicine Hat to work at a local clothing store. Soon after, she met her sweetheart at a dance in Walsh and three kisses later they were married on June 30, 1955. Jim and Betty resided in Walsh where they owned and operated a feedlot and general trucking operation. It is here where they welcomed their three children, Brent, Sheila-Rae, and Tracy. In the spring of 1964, Betty encouraged Jim to pursue his dream of becoming an Auctioneer, thus starting a 50 year family journey conducting numerous auctions throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan as Schlenker Auction Service Ltd. A short time later, opportunities arose and a partnership was formed with the MacArthur family where they built, owned and operated Hat Livestock Auction Ltd. in Medicine Hat while continuing with Schlenker Auction Service. Betty was invaluable in the businesses; she assumed many of the responsibilities behind the scenes while providing expertise as clerk and cashier on sale days. Betty enjoyed curling and was a member of the Medicine Hat Curling Club, she competed at numerous Bonspiels throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. Betty was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She thoroughly enjoyed spending her time with family and friends around a great home cooked meal. She also enjoyed travelling, camping, fishing, crafting, playing a competitive game of cards or betting on a curling game. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy as they put warmth in her heart and joy in her day! The funeral service will be held in the Cypress Centre Auditorium (2055 21st Ave SE) on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane P. Andrus officiating.
