Bessie ‘Betty’ Melinda Molloy
December 21, 1932 ~ October 9, 2019
Betty was born December 21, 1932, in Athabasca, Alberta and passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 86 years. At the age of two, Betty travelled with her family from Athabasca to Calgary in a Red River Cart where she lived until her preteen years. From Calgary, Betty and her family moved to Napanee, Ontario. In the fall of 1954, she met the love of her life, David and they were married on May 14, 1955, in Kingston, Ontario. David and Betty welcomed their first child Christopher (1955), followed by Janice (1957), Susan (1958), Jeffrey (1961) and Gregory (1963). They moved to Edmonton in 1970 and then to Alsask, SK in 1973. David and Betty moved further west to Courtney, BC in 1976 where they lived until 1983 when they returned to Alsask and eventually settled in Empress, Alberta. They finally fully retired and moved to Redcliff, Alberta in 2017 where her and David were able to slow down.
Throughout her years, Betty was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who also drove school bus, worked at the snack bar and the spent countless hours cooking, driving and bookkeeping for Western Guiding Services.
She will always be remembered for her gentle, caring personality and her ability to cook a delicious meal including her world famous clam chowder soup, which she never shared the recipe saying “I just throw in the ingredients”. Betty loved to travel and saw many places around the world including New Zealand, Iceland, Cook Islands, Alaska and throughout Canada and the United States.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Harry Curran and Grace Henwood; brothers, Bob Curran, Richard Curran, David Curran and sister Muriel Ducharme; grandson, Jonah Molloy and great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Johnson. She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 64 years David; her children Chris Molloy, Janice Molloy, Susan Johnson (Greg), Jeff Molloy (Karen) and Greg Molloy; grandchildren, Karla Gabruch (Vince), Joe Johnson (Dalina), Chelsea Carpenter (Cass), Erin Bryksa (Brian), Robin Molloy (Amanda), Heather Molloy, Coco, Kaya, and Jesse Molloy, Guessippina, Rosina, Luigi, and Molly Molloy, and Megan and Ian Molloy as well as her brother, Fred Curran. Betty was also blessed with many, many great grandchildren.
