Betty Edna Becker of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Harold Becker, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024 at the age of 93 years. Betty was born in Medicine Hat and spent her entire life in the area, at first on her parents’ family farm at Hilda, later with husband Harold on the Becker farm near Schuler, in the town of Hilda, followed by several years at the North Canadian Oils Richmound Gas Plant, and finally settling into retirement with Harold in Medicine Hat. From the very beginning, Betty knew the value of hard work, and as a young farm wife, she sold eggs and cream, butchered chickens, and made sausage with the best of them. Betty was an amazing cook who could take the most basic ingredients and make them taste like a little piece of heaven in your mouth. She was renowned for her kuchen and fried chicken and kaisnipfla. She was also talented at handiwork, and took several first prizes for her crochet work in the Medicine Hat Stampede. Betty loved to socialize, play cards, and entertain, which always involved serving food to others. She took great pride in her appearance and made sure, even in her last few months, that she wore a necklace, earrings, and had her natural dark hair looking just so. Above all, family, both immediate and extended, was the most important thing in Betty’s life. Betty is survived by her children Beverly (Gordon) Haag and Glenn (Sandra) Becker, grandchildren Cara Haag (Cam Anderson), Michelle Haag and Greg Haag (Jolene), and great grandchildren Skylar Fandrich, Reece Fandrich, Makayla Haag, and Hayden Haag. Besides her loving husband Harold, Betty was predeceased by her parents, John and Bertha Scheifele, brother Otto (Rose) Scheifele, and sister Clara (Max) Murschell. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so one hour prior to service time. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Roland Weisbrot officiating. The service will be live streamed. Those who wish to attend virtually, please visit Betty’s obituary page on our website for the link. Private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
