Bernadette Cecilia Mastel of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 at the age of 90 years, beloved wife of the late Jim Mastel. She leaves to cherish her memory six children, Patricia McMahon, Ken (Sheri) Mastel, David Mastel, Veronica (Michael) Gonzales, Lawrence (Tammy) Mastel and Joe (Melinda) Mastel; twelve grandchildren, Nicole (Will) Henderson and their two children; Kevin McMahon, Darren McMahon, Kristy (Perry) Rasmuson and their four children; Kyle (Trina) Mastel and their two children; Kendra (Mike) Armstrong and their two children; Brandon Mastel, Dillon Mastel, Nick Wirges, Joseph Mastel, Wade Mastel and Austin Mastel; two step grandsons and their children; two brothers-in-law Tom Mastel and Gordon Thielen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Anna Marie and Ignatius Gaetz; her husband Jim on September 27, 2004; one daughter in infancy; seven brothers and three sisters. Bernadette was born on October 6, 1930 at Faith, Alberta where she was raised. She married Jim Mastel one snowy June 26 in 1951 at Faith. They farmed at Granlea, Alberta until retiring to Medicine Hat in 1981. She resided in her home until her passing. Bernadette was a member of the C.W.L. for over 63 years as well as the W.I. for many years. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (Masks are mandatary). Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Iqbal Khurshid celebrant. You are invited to watch the funeral mass online; please go to Youtube.com and type in Medicine Hat Holy Family Church. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
