Allison Hazen Gray

Al, beloved husband of Elaine, died on December 27, 2021 in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age 86 years.
He was born August 12, 1935 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, the only child of Hazen Hartford Gray and Alice Grace Elizabeth Wiggins. As a child he lived in the same house as his grandfather Ziba Gray and as a result, was close to his grandfather.
Al married Elaine (Shrimati) on September 24, 1958, they had three children: Susan Elaine, Rodney Allison and Daryl Kenneth.
Al and Elaine settled in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Al graduated from Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, with a B.Sc. (Hon.) in chemistry before working for a large Canadian explosives manufacturer. He then returned to Mt. Allison for an M.Sc. in Chemistry and then to University of New Brunswick for a Ph.D. This was followed by a post doctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
For nearly 30 years Al worked as a Defence Scientist for the Canadian Department of National Defence at DRES, Ralston, Alberta (near Medicine Hat).
He was active with the Medicine Hat Rotary Club, enjoyed computers and working with his horses – riding and training. He was musically inclined and played the saxophone in a jazz band. His children all inherited his musical talent.
Al had a deep love of family and he was proud of his Loyalist roots. He had voracious passion for science, languages, poetry, music, worldviews, and cultures. His mind never stopped moving. His smile was wide. His laugh was booming. His heart and love had infinite capacity.”
A celebration of Al’s life will be held in the distant future with services in Medicine Hat, Alberta and burial in the Pembroke Cemetery, New Brunswick.
