Allan Shoemaker
September 4, 1949 ~ September 21, 2026
It is with the greatest sadness that Shirley Ann Shoemaker announces the passing of her beloved husband of 55 years, Allan Douglas Shoemaker. Allan was born to Robert (“Bert”) and Jean Shoemaker in Stettler, Alberta, on September 4, 1949. He married the love of his life, Shirley, on September 11, 1971, and together they built a strong, loving family. Allan was a devoted father to Leslie (Bruce Glauser), Brenda Fandrick (Dave Jonker), Dawn (Charles Lim), and Jennifer (Jay Pinnell). He was a proud grandfather to: Madeline (Alex Hill), Brayden, Robert, Jackson Glauser, Cole and Seth Fandrick, Blake and Edward Lim, Emma and Brooklyn Pinnell, and a cherished great‑grandfather to his two sweethearts, Reyla and Melody Hill. To his grandchildren, he wasn’t just a grandfather — he was PAPA. Papa was the joker, the teaser, the one who lit up every room with laughter. His grandkids adored “picking on Papa,” a tradition filled with giggles, love, and memories that will never fade. Being Papa was one of the greatest joys of Allan’s life, and he carried that title with pride, tenderness, and endless humour. Allan worked for the Alberta Wheat Pool before becoming a highly successful insurance broker and businessman. He poured his heart into his work, building a business he was deeply proud of. His determination, honesty, and work ethic earned him the respect of clients and colleagues across the province. Allan understood that people make mistakes — but he believed character spoke volumes, and he lived that belief in every relationship he built. Shirley and Allan spent most of their life in Coronation, Alberta, where Allan was an active member of the community and proudly involved in the Lions Club. He made lifelong friendships in Coronation — friendships built on trust, laughter, and the way he showed up for people. He loved the outdoors — hunting, fishing, camping, water‑skiing, and snow‑skiing. He took his family camping more times than anyone could count, creating memories that will last forever. In 2021, Allan and Shirley moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to “his girls,” a decision that brought him tremendous comfort, joy, and connection in his later years. Allan’s strength and character came from the beautiful family he was raised in. He loved his siblings: Carol (Ebe Jahn), Harry (Linda Shoemaker), Vern (Linda Shoemaker), and Brian (Kersti Shoemaker). He was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Jean; his brother‑in‑law, Ebe Jahn, and two sons‑in‑law, Dean Fandrick and Charles Lim. Allan treasured his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family gatherings were among his most cherished times. Shirley and Allan spent their winters down south in Needles, California, where he formed several lasting friendships. He looked forward to coffee time with the “old boys club,” and of course, happy hour. They travelled and cruised to many places together, always enjoying nature and each other’s company. Allan passed away surrounded by his “girls,” the people he loved most. His family extends a huge thank‑you to the beautiful nurses on 4 West and the doctors who cared for him with compassion. The family of Allan Douglas Shoemaker announces his passing with broken hearts, deep gratitude, and endless love. Papa will be missed beyond measure.
