He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Schmidt; his wife, Catherine “Laurie” Schmidt on May 6, 2016; his daughter, Catherine in infancy; his brothers, Edward, Joseph and Walter and his sisters, Marie, Delores and Beatrice. Alfred was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan on June 14th, 1932. The family moved to Vancouver Island where he went to school and graduated. After graduating from high school he joined the RCMP and worked in the Grand Prairie area. He met his wife Laurie in McLennan and they were later married in Grand Prairie where they had four children Trent, Brian, Bradley and Wade. The family moved to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta in 1964, then Brooks, Alberta in 1972. After Al retired from the RCMP in 1977, he took a job as clerk of the Supreme Court of the Yukon Territory and moved the family up north. He fully retired in 1988, and travelled North America with Laurie until 1994, when they settled in Medicine Hat. They returned to Brooks in 2011. Al was a giving person. He and Laurie volunteered many hours to teaching Saint John’s Ambulance and first aid everywhere they lived. He was a shooting instructor for the sea cadet core in Rocky as well as the air cadet core in Brooks. He also volunteered many hours to the catholic church. Al enjoyed sharing outdoor experiences with his boys as they were growing up. We all took many trips together to camp, hunt, and fish in the various areas in which we lived. He taught us many skills in regards to hunting and fishing that we have now passed on to our children. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. with Fr.
