Adam Anthony Schafer passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at the age of 87 years, beloved husband of Kathryn Schafer of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory their daughter, Valerie (Lionel) Folk and two grandchildren, D’Jhonna and Brent; two sister-in-laws, Shirley Winkler and Mabel Schafer. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Mathilda Schafer (Krassman); four brothers, John, William “Bill” (Rose), Daniel and Emmanuel; three sisters, Rose (Adam) Reider , Elizabeth (Andrew) Schile, and Sally (Henry) Fischer. Adam was born on March 28, 1930, in Medicine Hat and continued to farm on the family homestead in Schuler. On October 28, 1961, he married Kathryn Haaf of Fox Valley, and they celebrated 56 years of marriage on the Saturday prior to his passing. Adam was involved for many years in the community of Schuler, volunteering for the Schuler Community Organization and the Schuler Water Co-op. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church was very important to him as well, and he donated many hours to the upkeep of the building. Throughout Adam’s life, he enjoyed playing ball, starting out with ringer ball with cousins, and eventually graduating to slow pitch with the Smut’s Electric team of Schuler. His family though, always came first. He was always very proud of his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, and all of their accomplishments. Adam was always happy, had a smile on his face, and left an impression on everyone he met, either young or old. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
