LETHBRIDGE, AB — Head coach Tom Vessella new it was a matter of time before the bats began clicking.

It finally happened Thursday night down Highway 3.

A seven-spot in the third inning highlighted a massive 13-1 victory for the Medicine Hat Mavericks over the Lethbridge Bulls at Spitz Stadium.

The bust-up, which only lasted five full innings before weather forced officials to call the match, snaps an eight-game losing streak for the defending league champions.

Every Mavericks batter collected at least one hit, with Russell Strilchuck and Collin Klingensmith leading the pack with three hits each.

Cameron Pope, Nolan Rattai, and Sal Rodriguez each collected two RBI, and Freddy Walker joined Strilchuck with a game-leading three runs.

Jaymon Cervantes earned his first victory of the season, lasting all five innings and fanning five batters with six hits and one earned run.

Lethbridge, who entered the match with a 3-0 record against the Mavericks and winners of four straight, collected its lone run by Robert Bostedt, who went two-for-two at the dish.

It’s the Mavericks first victory in 10 days, helping snap the squads longest losing streak in over a decade. They out-hit their southern Alberta rivals 17-6.

Medicine Hat returns home on Friday, hosting the Edmonton Prospects at Athletic Park (7:05 p.m.).
