MEDICINE HAT, AB – With the slate wiped clean after Thursday’s cancelled races, Kurt Bensmiller showcased to the spectators at the Medicine Hat Stampede Grounds why he is the defending two-time defending world champion.

Bensmiller drove his outfit to the fastest time of the night on Day 2 of the WPCA’s Medicine Hat & Exhibition Stampede Championship, coming across the line in a penalty-free time of 1:02.65.

Vern Nolin wasn’t far behind Bensmiller, finishing just five-hundredths of a second behind the leader to finish his night sitting in second place.

Heat 11 winner Codey McCurrach was the only other driver to finish under a time of 1:03.00, sitting just over three-tenths of a second back of Bensmiller to end Day 2 in third.

Last year’s champion Cody Ridsdale will have some work ahead of him on Saturday night to make up the gap, currently sitting tied for 19th with Obrey Motowylo after posting a time of 1:05.05 on Friday.

The second night of aggregate racing will be held on Saturday with Day 3 heats beginning at 7:00 pm, with the top three chuckwagons in the aggregate standings advancing to Sunday’s ‘Dash for Cash’ heat.
