Police respond to rollover on Kingsway Avenue

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service says nobody was hurt following a collision which caused a vehicle to roll over Thursday morning.

The collision occurred on Kingsway Avenue near Spencer Street at 11:48 a.m., and involved a Kia Spectra and a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

According to police, the male driver of the Kia was allegedly manipulating a cellphone while driving, and ended up striking the Jeep, which was in the right lane. The Kia then rolled over.

There were no injuries to either driver.

Traffic was briefly detoured while crews cleaned up the scene.

The male youth driver of the vehicle received a 24 hour suspension for drug impaired driving following a roadside screening test. Police say the driver was also charged with careless driving and driving while on a cellphone.

The total estimated damage to both vehicles was approximately $10,000.
