MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service is reminding residents who drive Ford trucks to take precautions after responding to a rash of truck thefts in the past month.

According to a post from police shared Tuesday, police say they have noted an increase in the number of stolen trucks reported over the last 30 days, saying Ford F250 and Ford F350 trucks have been stolen more frequently.

Police say the majority of the stolen vehicles have been recovered within a short period of time, and add most vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity, wityh criminals using the vehicles to aid im committing other crimes, such as robberies.

Police are reminding the public to do their part to minimize the chance of vehicle theft, including not leaving your vehicle running, locking your vehicle, not leaving a spare key in your vehicle and not leaving visible items, such as money or cell phones, in your vehicle.

With the increase in Ford truck being stolen, police are asking Ford truck owners of 2005-2008 models to take extra precautions, such as installing an alarm.

Residents are asked to call police at 403-529-8481 if you see suspicious behaviour in your neighbourhood, and to call 911 if there is a crime in progress.
