HAMBURG, GERMANY – Dawson Murschell put Canada in position for a major upset for a second straight day, but the Medicine Hat product’s magic ran out Sunday at the 2019 World Cup of Darts.

Representing Canada alongside Jim Long, Murschell upset the world’s number one seed in the opening leg, but Canada ultimately fell to Team Netherlands 2-1 in the quarter-final stage.

Murschell shocked Michael Van Gerwen 4-2 in the opening leg to give Canada the early advantage, but Jermaine Wattimena was able to pick up a 4-2 win over Long to force a third leg.

In the doubles decider, Van Gerwen and Wattimena were able to run the table and earn a 4-1 victory over Murschell and Long to advance to the semi-finals.

Losing in the quarters, it’s the best personal result for Murschell at a national event after being eliminated in the second round of last year’s World Cup of Darts event.

In the gold medal final, Team Scotland took out an unseeded Ireland squad to capture the 2019 championships.
