FORT McMURRAY, AB — The Medicine Hat Mavericks were walked off by Richard Ortiz’ RBI-triple in the bottom of the ninth, falling 6-5 to the Fort McMurray Giants at Shell Place on Friday night.

It’s the Mavericks second loss in back-to-back games against the Giants to fall to 4-4 on the regular season. Fort Mac, meanwhile, improves to 4-4, and can win the four-game series with a victory tomorrow night.

Medicine Hat took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the second when the Giants scored on four straight batters to take a 4-2 lead.

The Giants added a single in the fifth with Peyton Crispin’s RBI-double, but the Mavericks responded in the top of the sixth. Russell Strilchuk batted in a pair of runs on Kieth Manby’s final pitch of the evening, and Freddy Walker brought home Strilchuk with an RBI-single to tie it up 5-5.

Strilchuk led Medicine Hat’s offence with two RBI while going one-for-three at the dish. Cameron Pope, John Velasco, and Walker each collected two hits.
