MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Mavericks will be without one of their key outfielders for at least a month.

Julien Ly has sustained multiple left leg injuries stemming from an outfield collision during Monday night’s game against the Lethbridge Bulls.

Head coach Tom Vessella says the sophomore from Sanger, TX has a sprained ankle and ligament damage to his knee. He’ll receive an MRI for further assessment on his MCL and ACL, with an expected rehab time of at least four weeks.

The injury occurred in the sixth inning of Monday’s loss to Lethbridge. While attempting to flag down a pop-fly, Ly collided with fellow outfielder John Velasco.

Both players left the game and did not return. Velasco developed a black eye, and Ly needed assistance from two teammates to hobble off the field.

Velasco returned on Tuesday night in Edmonton, helping the Mavericks stomp the Prospects 13-3 with two hits and two RBI.

This is Ly’s second campaign with the Mavericks. Last season, he batted .363 with 33 hits and 19 RBI in 31 games to help Medicine Hat capture the WMBL Championship.
