MHPL hosts semi-annual book sale

MEDICINE HAT, AB – If you’re looking to add to your book collection, the Medicine Hat Public Library (MHPL) is hosting their semi-annual book sale this weekend.

With no dedicated used book stores in the City, Chief Librarian Ken Feser says this is the best opportunity for people to come and see what’s out there for a discounted price.

Feser says there are hundreds of items to choose from and if you want to get the best selection, you might want to head down to the library right away.

“It’s not just books,” explained Feser. “We have DVD’s, CD’s, movies, and different things like that available. We also have a lot of books and the selection really varies. We have best-sellers, current stuff and paperbacks. We also get some older, classic materials. It’s by donation with people donating their old books. So, it’s that plus discards from the library.”

As the selection dwindles, Feser says the deals will start getting better than they already are.

“Everything is already fairly priced at a dollar or two depending on what you’re looking at. But, on Saturday in the afternoon, we do a sale where we’re selling things by the bag and you’ll get some much better prices at that point.”

This event is put on by the non-for-profit ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ group in Medicine Hat and Feser says these sales usually bring in upwards of $7,000 to help the library.

“The money that’s raised for this, it doesn’t go in to the kind of usual gas bills and stuff like that. This is for extra things that we might not be able to do otherwise. New furniture, special collections and that sort of thing. So, it really makes a big difference and gives us the ability to do some new and exciting things.”

The book sale runs until 8 p.m. tonight and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow.
