MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Medicine Hat man charged with first degree murder and extortion will be going to trial

Robert Hoefman was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Tuesday, according to Court Check.

Details from the preliminary hearing cannot be reported due to a publication ban.

Hoefman, 56, was charged with first-degree murder in January 2018 in connection with the death of James Satre, 63.

Satre’s body was found in an area near Mill Street Southeast and Smelter Avenue on the morning of October 11, 2017.

Hoefman was originally arrested and charged with one count of extortion in November 2017. Police allege the extortion and Satre’s murder are connected.
