Athletes win multiple medals at city track meet

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Several athletes had strong performances at the Senior High City Track and Field Championships earlier this week.

Monsignor McCoy’s Megan Morrison finished in first place in the junior girls 100 metre dash (13.61 seconds), the junior girls 200 metre dash (28.55 seconds) and 80 metre hurdles (13.03 seconds).

Ayla Wikjord with Ecole Les Cypres took first place in the junior girls 800m run, 1500m run and 3000m run.

Tara Moch from Medicine Hat High School finished in first place in the junior girls high jump and pole vault.

In the intermediate girls category, Kiana Farrell of Monsignor McCoy finished in first place in the 200m and 400m dash, while Hat High’s Taya Karsten won gold in the 80m hurdles, triple jump and pole vault. Eagle Butte’s Montana Wright won gold in shot put, discus and javelin.

The senior girls category saw Bethany Regier of Crescent Heights High School win gold in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m run.

On the boys’ side of the event, Hat High’s Elic Ayomanor claimed the gold in the junior boys 200m (23.53 seconds) and 400m dash (54.14 seconds), while Eagle Butte’s Brendan Olson won the 800m and 1500m run.

Kaden Rath of Eagle Butte took first in the 3000m run and the triple jump.

Toras Brooks of Monsignor McCoy won the shot put and discus.

In the intermediate category, Kyle Spackman from Hat High finished in first place in long jump, triple jump and pole vault. Hat High’s Joshua Suezle swept the discus, javelin and shot put.

In the seniors category, Hat High’s Jayden Smith won long jump and triple jump, and Eagle Butte’s Obi Aniagu finish first in discus and shot put.

Hat High’s Brody Brandham was victorious in the outdoor pentathlon (100m dash, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m dash).
