MEDICINE HAT, AB — A tradition for fight fans in Medicine Hat returns Saturday.

Fists of Fury 15: A New Era goes Saturday night at the Cypress Centre.

“The new era is a couple of things,” said Jamie Droeske, owner and head instructor of SACA (Southern Alberta Combative Arts) kickboxing, which hosts the event. “This is my first time organizing the event, and I love it. I like planning events, so it’s right up my alley.

“And also, our new facility. It’s just a year of new, so we’re really excited.”

SACA Kickboxing recently moved from its previous location downtown to a new building on Clay Avenue Southeast in the Flats. Droeske said it has been a busy five months getting the new building up and running, but was thankful for the help of volunteers to make the new space a reality.

“We moved a whole gym in three hours,” she said. “That should tell you how many people we had on our side, and people love it. I’m really happy about that.”

Droeske says the new gym increases the space to run classes and have more equipment.

This year’s Fist of Fury card features nine fights, featuring fighters from across Western Canada, including as far away as Winnipeg.

Five local fighters from SACA (Talia St. Jacques, Pietro de Andrade , Bruce Forester, Dakota Wells and Erika Miller ) are also on the card.

“The fighters have been working really hard, and I’m excited to see it all come together,” said Droeske.

The event begins at 6 p.m., and tickets can be purchased online here
