MEDICINE HAT, AB — A former Medicine Hat Mavericks coach will be on the front lines of a new baseball academy in Medicine Hat this fall.

Kyle Swannack, who was the pitching coach for the Mavericks last season, will be teaming up with Monsignor McCoy High School for the baseball academy, which launches next year alongside a fitness and performance course run by BJ Melle.

The main goal is to help student athletes develop a broad range of baseball skills, focusing on everything from batting and throwing techniques, to nutrition and mental training.

“There’s a lot of Notre Dame (Academy) baseball players, as well as baseball in general, the city has some really good ball players,” he said. “It gives them another option to go to.”
