Medicine Hat, AB- On June 5th, the City of Medicine Hat is looking for 50-100 volunteers to help them with an emergency.

The city will be holding a full-scale emergency exercise at the Canalta Centre from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m..

The exercise will involve the city, the fire department, the police, and Alberta Health Services.

Jason Wheeler who is the Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator for the city didn’t want to give too many details away to make the simulation as real as possible but says it will be a mock multi causality event.

“So we need to use some volunteers for evacuation. So we will evacuate the Canalta Centre. We’ll need a number of volunteers to help us act as members of the public.” Wheeler said.

To find out more details about how to volunteer, people can contact Wheeler directly.

“They can contact me and we can let them know the kind of intimate details on where they need to be, what will be involved and whether they would like to join in. That would be a fantastic opportunity to kind of witness first hand how these things come together.”

Wheeler also said that all businesses around the Canalta Centre will remain open and that all emergency services will also be operating as usual.
