Telfer helps York9 FC to first-ever win and to move on in Canadian Championship
TORONTO — Ryan Telfer’s goal in the 71st minute lifted the Canadian Premier League’s York9 FC to a 1-0 win over AS Blainville on Wednesday night to advance to the second qualifying round of the Canadian Championship.
It’s the first victory in York9 FC’s short history. The team has started the inaugural CPL season with a loss and two draws.
York9 FC will face fellow CPL side FC Edmonton, June 5 and 12 for a chance to move on to the next stage of the expanded national cup competition.
The arrival of the CPL has resulted in an expanded tournament format this year with five rounds, 13 teams and 24 matches.
