Alert Ready sending test emergency message next week

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The organization which sends alerts to your phone, tablet and television will be running a test next week.

The Alert Ready Emergency Alert System will conduct a test across Canada on May 8.

In Alberta, compatible devices are expected to receive an alert at 1:55 p.m. Mountain time, while Saskatchewan will receive the test at 1:55 p.m. Central time.

The Alert Ready system sends alerts to radio, television and compatible wireless devices over a LTE network, such as tablets and phones, during emergency situations, such as Amber Alerts. It was first tested in May 2018, with some devices not receiving the test message

The organization says the device compatibility, software version, a connection to a LTE network and your phone settings can impact if you receive the alert or not. Compatibility can be checked here.

The service was tested again in November 2018, with the company calling it a success.
