MEDICINE HAT, AB — Fencing is visible around the fountain and plaza in front of City Hall to allow city crews to perform upgrades to the city’s parkade.

The City of Medicine Hat announced on Wednesday they will be upgrading the roof membrane on the parkade. Roof membrane is used to help with drainage on a building, and the plaza and fountain in front of City Hall is also the roof to the city’s parkade.

According to a release from the city, the roof membrane has reached the end of its life expectancy. The replacement will help improve drainage, ensure the integrity of the parkade, and should last approximately 30 years.

As a result of the construction, the wheelchair ramp on the plaza will not be accessible through the construction. Those who need barrier-free access to City Hall will have to use the entrance on First Street Southeast.

The city will also close the west sidewalk of Finlay Bridge to pedestrians through the project.

The work is expected to be finished by August 30.

Pedestrians and motorists are reminded to obey all signage in the area while work is underway.
