Colts top Mohawks in extra innings

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Monsignor McCoy High School Colts topped the Medicine Hat High School Mohawks in extra innings on Wednesday.

The Colts were victorious 8-6 at Jeffries Park in eight innings.

According to Colts coach Intek Hong, the teams were tied 6-6 after seven innings. Reese Whelan batted in two runs in the top of the eighth innings, while pitcher Evan Morrison earned the save by striking out three batters in the bottom on the inning.

Whelen went 3-for-4 at the plate through the game, while Jayden Ball, Kayden Berndt and Ben van der Sloot each had two hits.

According to the box score, Josh Stark had the only hit for the Mohawks during the game. Mohawks batters were walked 11 times.

Carson Sauter earned the win on the mound for the Colts. He entered the game in relief of Jaden Schwindt in the fourth inning. Sauter allowed no hits, one run, one error and struck out three batters in three-and-two-thirds innings.

The Colts and Mohawks, along with the Eagle Butte High School Talons and the Crescent Heights High School Vikings will all be in action at the UCT High School Baseball Tournament in Medicine Hat. The tournament, which includes 10 teams, runs from Thursday to Saturday.
